 Named after Boer President Paul Kruger, Krugersdorp in western Gauteng was founded in 1887 after the discovery of gold in the area. Today Krugersdorp is the industrial hub of Western Gauteng and is an important mining city with gold, manganese, iron, asbestos and lime mined in the area.
